Why our Finance for Freelancers workshop is different

Tax buttons on calculator

In the run-up to this month’s Finance for Freelancers workshop in London (book here!), I saw an interesting comment on Facebook under BECTU’s ad for the course.

The suggestion was that other organisations run free courses on tax, etc., so why bother with ours.

While there’s plenty of general guidance online and elsewhere, you won’t find much about the special challenges facing creative freelancers.

For example, there are special tax arrangements that can affect freelancers in TV, film and theatre production, whether being paid PAYE, or even working through their own limited companies.

Even the tax office can get a bit confused about all this, and you won’t find everything mentioned on the HMRC’s otherwise excellent YouTube channel.

In fact it was because no-one else seems to train in this area that I started providing business skills courses specifically for creative freelancers in 2005.

Gosh! nearly 15 years! Doesn’t time fly when you’re having a lot of fun.
